What is Pupil Premium and how is it paid?

The Pupil Premium is a government initiative designed to address the achievement gap for those pupils that are deemed to be from a disadvantaged background. It is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and to close the gap between them and their peers. It is provided for those pupils that have been on free school meals at any point in the last 6 years, or those children that have been looked after continuously for at least 6 months. Pupil premium funding is available to both mainstream and non-mainstream schools, such as special schools and pupil referral units.

In the 2022 to 2023 financial year, we have received the following funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years:

       £1,385 for pupils in reception to year 6

       £985 for pupils in years 7 to 11

       £2410 for looked-after children (LAC)

Schools also received £2410 for each pupil who has left local-authority care because of one of the following:

• adoption
• a special guardianship order
• a child arrangements order 
• a residence order
